Assignments
Every assignment connects you directly with a nearby farm in need of help. You’ll receive clear details about the job, including location, date, start time, hourly pay, and estimated duration.
- Harvesting: Help collect ripe crops from fields, orchards, or greenhouses. These jobs often involve lifting, sorting, and packing fresh produce.
- Planting: Assist with sowing seeds, transplanting seedlings, and preparing soil. These jobs are ideal for early-season work and require attention to detail.
- Farmers Markets: Support farmers at local markets by setting up booths, handling produce, assisting customers, and managing transactions.
Assignments longer than 4 hours include a mandatory 30-minute paid break, covered by the farmer.
On the day of your assignment, arrive on time and ready to work. When you arrive:
- Use the app to Check-In - this logs your location, time, and a photo of your surroundings.
- Your work clock starts once your check-in is submitted.
- Farmers have the ability to review and revise incorrect time-sheets.
If you have questions or need clarification, you can message the farmer directly through the app as soon as you're assigned.
Payments
All payments are securely processed through Stripe, our trusted payment partner. We’ve designed the system to be simple, transparent, and fair for both farmers and workers.
- Secure Setup: Farmers add a credit card to their account, which is securely stored and managed by Stripe. This card is used to fund all worker payments.
- Automatic Payouts: Workers create a Stripe Connect account to receive direct deposits after completing assignments. No manual invoicing required.
- Time-Sheet Approval: Farmers review and approve time-sheets after each job. If a time-sheet isn’t approved within 48 hours, the system automatically processes payment using the farmer’s card on file.
- Fair Fees: Farmers pay a small service fee plus Stripe’s standard 2.9% processing fee - helping us keep the platform running smoothly and securely.
- Transparent Rates: Farmers are charged based on their selected hourly rate, number of workers, and estimated hours and days. All jobs must meet or exceed your state’s minimum wage requirements.
Our goal is to make payments effortless and reliable so farmers can focus on their fields, and workers can get paid quickly and fairly.
Age Requirements
Side Hoe adheres to all federal and state regulations regarding age eligibility for agricultural employment. Individuals under the age of 18 must meet the legal requirements set by their state to participate in farm work through our platform.
For detailed information about your state’s child labor laws in agriculture, please visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s official resource: State Child Labor Laws Applicable to Agricultural Employment .
Vetting Process
We believe in building a trusted, respectful community — and that starts with getting to know each other.
- For Farmers: We’ll schedule a quick, friendly onboarding call to learn about your farm, your needs, and how we can best support your workflow. It’s our way of making sure we’re a great fit and that you feel confident using the platform.
- For Workers: During registration, you’ll be asked to upload a valid form of identification. Once submitted, our team will review your profile and invite you to a brief one-on-one video chat. This helps us confirm your identity, answer any questions, and ensure you’re ready for the types of jobs available.
- Safety First: We take vetting seriously to protect both workers and farmers. Every profile is reviewed by a real human, and we never share your personal information without your consent.
Our goal is to create a reliable, respectful environment where everyone feels supported, from the first hello to the final harvest.
